Hello! My name is Claire Hanrahan. I am in my 2nd year of the MA Art History program at George Mason University. I was born and raised in Maryland, outside of Washington, D.C. For my undergraduate degree I went to Marywood University in Scranton, PA, obtaining my B.F.A. in Painting with a minor of Art History. As much as I loved painting, studying art history was where I saw my future heading towards.
Interests and Experiences
My main interests in the feild of art history are Islamic art, modern and contemporary art, and gender studies. I have always been interested in Islamic art, even incorporating influences of it into my own art. This interest only grew stronger as I traveled abroad.
After graduatingfrom George Mason University I will be starting an internship at the Freer/Sackler Galleries in Washington, DC.
This Class and Project
This class was meant to enable historians to combine print papers to a digital format. Not only put the research in a digital format but to be able to design a properly functioning webpage to portray the research.
This is the final project for my class Creating History in New Media. The final project asked us to create a website based on research that we have done in our feild. I chose to use my research on the artist Edmonia Lewis.
This site goes through Edmonia Lewis' life, education, career, and an analysis of the works. Focusing on research I also included in the site the bibliography for my research paper and a gallery of all the images so they could be located in one place. Edmonia Lewis was one of many American women artists that went to Rome. To read more about this visit my colleague, Kirsten Sadler's website.
